Every year since 1989, the Grand Prairie High School Alumni Association has held a reception on campus prior to the Homecoming game. The Alumni Association welcomes all former students, teachers and their families to attend. A brief annual meeting is held to attend to necessary business and make announcements. At that time, the Association introduces the current year’s selections for Outstanding Alumni, Outstanding Educator and Status Gopher. These honorees are also recognized during halftime activities on the field of the Gopher Bowl.
In 1990, the Alumni Association awarded its first scholarship. In 1991, the first silent auction was held to raise money for the scholarship fund. We have been supported generously by many Grand Prairie merchants and friends through donations of goods and services to the silent auctions, as well as cash donations. We are proud to receive donations to the scholarship fund in honor or memory of friends or loved ones. These donations are also recorded in the Alumni Association’s permanent records.
Our desire is to continue to grow in membership and to establish a full database of information of graduating classes, which will be helpful to all alumni of Grand Prairie High School. We want to work more closely with reunion committees to be able to continually add information to our database and to be of help in locating classmates.
A note from our President
There is a promising future for the Alumni Association with a new board that is gung-ho on doing what is best for the alumni and the students of Grand Prairie High School. The new board is a combination of past officers in new positions as well as some new faces. I am honored and privileged to hold the position of your president. We look forward to a great year and hope many ex-Gophers will get involved with the Alumni Association. We are always open to new ideas to grow and prosper. Broadening our membership, building the Alumni Association endowment, and awarding annual scholarships to deserving graduating GPHS seniors remains the primary focus of the GPHS Alumni Association.
